The Location: Kiel, Germany
Kiel is the only state capital in Germany located directly on the coast in the far north of the country in Schleswig-Holstein and connects the Baltic Sea with the North Sea via the famous Kiel Canal. With 250,000 inhabitants, it is the northernmost major city in Germany. The university city is famous for the handball record champion THW-Kiel, the largest German shipyard ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, the ferry connections to Scandinavia and the culinary specialty of “Kieler Sprotten”.
The annual highlight in the Sailing City Kiel is the largest sailing event in the world, the Kieler Woche, which is also an international folk festival ending back to back on the day when the PEDG begins.

Flight to Hamburg Airport:
Hamburg International Airport with daily flights from most major hubs is located only 95 km away from Kiel. Within ca. 1 hour you arrive in Kiel with the taxi (either private limousine service or Kielexx shuttle), with the airport-bus „Kielius“ or by rail.
Travel with Train to Kiel central station
Kiel central station is a terminus of the ICE network and has a total of six daily Connections to Cologne, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Berlin. With the regional trains the cities Hamburg, Lübeck, Flensburg, Husum, Neumünster, Eckernförde, Preetz and others can be reached every half hour. Kiel's central railway station is easy to reach in the city centre, just a few metres from the ferries, bus stops, the central taxi station and several large hotels.
Kiel Public Transporation:
Kiel features a dense network of bus lines that covering all urban areas, including lines to various beaches and resorts on the city outskirts and high frequency service between the conference location and the downtown/central station/hotel region of the city.
The operating company offers reduced cost flat rate tickets and extra shuttle bus services to bulk customers, these services will be available to all participants and are included in the registration fee in the budget proposal.
